Being the largest covered market in Hanoi, you can pretty much get anything in here. If you are looking to experience the local lifestyle, this is the place to go as it is one of the busiest places in Hanoi in terms of trading.

Hanoi Old Quarter

Packed with charming colonial architecture, Buddhist temples and pagodas, the Old Quarter is Hanoi’s major commercial district. Its heart and soul is exposed in the ancient commercial streets which are named after their original businesses dating back about 1,000 years. Expect to find plenty of hip café, bars, a variety of restaurants, bakeries, boutique shops and art galleries in this historical area.

Hanoi Night Market

If you are in Hanoi over the weekend, from Friday to Sunday, you should head over to the night market. The streets near the Old Quarter will be transformed for this night market and vehicles won’t be able to get in. Other than shopping for goods, you can also get street foods and watch some live performances here.

Where: It is approximately 3 kilometres long from Hang Dao Street all the way until the Dong Xuan market.

Tip2: As the traffic in Hanoi might seem chaotic for visitors from other country, it might be best to rent a car with a driver, or rent a cab instead of driving yourself.

Tip3: When crossing the road, you have to learn to be more fearless. When you are ready and there’s enough space for you to start walking, walk at a constant speed across the road and the drivers on the road will adjust their speed accordingly.
